In the 1970s, producer George Pal tried to take his version of H.G. Wells' classic into the future, showing an all-new conflict between man and Martian in a proposed WAR OF THE WORLDS television series. A promo reel was shot to present to Paramount, using the then-new "MagiCam" process. (Although Starlog magazine ran an brief article on the project, they curiously made no mention of George Pal's involvement.) Here, now, this DVD let's you see the "sizzle reel" Pal presented to the studio. Along with the promo for the abandoned series, there is also an extensive look back at Pal's classic WAR OF THE WORLDS theatrical feature...leaving us wondering why Paramount didn't include this as a bonus feature on the deluxe DVD of the 1953 movie (the edition that included the Rondo-award winning commentary by the late Bill Warren). If you're a fan of George Pal in general, or 1953's WAR OF THE WORLDS in particular, you're probably going to want to include this in your collection.
