Beautiful SUPERMAN EXPRESS Litho Tin Windup Toy MIB NIB Out Of Production NR by Schylling Description: Offered here is a beautiful lithographed tin windup toy called SUPERMAN EXPRESS. The toy is modeled after the 1920s classic Marx toy, New York Express. The toy shown here has the same dimensions as the earlier Marx, New York toy but instead of an airplane circling overhead, this toy features classic Superman. The tin litho illustrations are different than the Marx toy as well and feature Superman's city as well as classic Superman phrases. The toy is all tin except for Superman which is plastic. The clockwork windup motor is concealed in the building located in the center of the toy. In addition to propelling the streamlined train around the base and through tunnels and Superman overhead, the motor doubles as a music box and plays the theme from the 1970s Superman movie. This toy is a beautifully executed, more modern take on the classic Marx New York and Honeymoon Express series of toys made from the 1920s through the 1960s. This particular, Superman version was never made by Marx or any other company that I know of so it is not really a reproduction but rather a redesign using the best elements of the older Marx toys coupled with beautiful graphics that go with the Superman theme. This tinplate material is as sturdy as that used for the older toys.
