Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island Soundtrack CD Gerald Fried:

First broadcast in 1981, The Harlem Globetrotters On Gilligan's Island was the third feature-length sequel to the hit TV series.

Outdoing all previous stories for sheer goofiness, the plot this time sees the famous basketball team ditching their plane in the ocean and, after fighting off sharks with basketballs, they arrive on Gilligan's island where a pair of nefarious villains (played by Martin Landau and Barbara Bain) are busy conning the castaways out of their stake in the holiday resort so that they can get their hands on a priceless ore that will make them filthy rich. Naturally this all leads to a sporting showdown between the Globetrotters and a team of basketball-playing robots (designed by the villains) and only Gilligan can save the day with a winning shot at the very last second.

Composer Gerald Fried was no stranger to Gilligan's weird and wonderful world, having scored the previous two sequels and many of the original episodes, so he took to the latest wacky shenanigans like a duck to water.

One particular challenge of comedy scoring is how to compose music for genuinely threatening things like storms, quicksand, sharks and tarantulas, without sounding too scary for Gilligan's young audience. Here, Fried solves that problem with his usual aplomb, as well as supplying zany music for the evil robots and a lovely Scottish-flavoured theme for Mary Ann being wooed by the wicked villain.

And of course it's only natural that "Sweet Georgia Brown" - the tune so indelibly associated with the Harlem Globetrotters - is brought in at the last minute to help them defeat the bad guys.

This recording features the complete score for the feature film in excellent sound quality, with no dialog or sound effects. (Note: the Main Title is missing the vocals, although they are present on the End Title).
